I have this little problem...

Yeah, so sequins and sparkles at Everybody, Everywear this month. One of my favourite things about EBEW is how it sometimes gets me to go way out of my comfort zone, although never before as much as this month, because, whoa, I have some serious sequin/sparkly issues, which I can explain. Basically, it comes down to two issues:
1) I went through a plus-size period, and any sort of bling-y embellishment reminds me of just how abysmal some of my fancy clothes choices were at the time.
2) Much the same thing applies to stuff aimed at, ahem, more mature women.
These two particular hang-ups are kind of stupid. Sparkly is in, all across the size and age spectrums. I keep seeing people of all ages and sizes wearing sparkly stuff, and thinking they look amazing. And yet, until very recently, I was completely resistant to the very idea of wearing sequins, myself.
It was a recent experience with a banded hem top that caused me to rethink my position on the sparkly. See, the banded hem thing is something from which I instinctively recoil, for much the same reasons as I do with sequins/sparkles etc., but I thrifted one by accident, and it turned out to be extremely flattering and I liked it quite a lot. So, basically, that experience and a drastic markdown on a sequinned tank led me to the creation of this outfit, which is this year’s holiday event attire.
Details:
Earrings: Monet.
Velvet duster: Kaliko, thrifted. Oh man, I love this thing. I love velvet so much, and I love this rich green, and it’s beautifully made and fully lined, and this is why thrifting is my favourite hobby, amen.
Sequin tank: New Look. Being me, I went for a semi-matte kind of sequin. I like how bronze works with my colouring, and I knew immediately I could pair this with the green velvet duster.
Faux-leather jeans: Premium Super Skinny, Gap Outlet. These are basically waxed denim. The fit is awesome. Finally, a reasonably snug fit in the thigh.
Suede platform clogs: Michael Kors, remixed. These are probably the coolest shoes I own. I am 6’5” in these shoes, by the way.
